🌟 The Crochet Journey
When did you start crocheting, and who taught you?
-
I started when I was pregnant with my daughter. I was determined to make her an heirloom blanket. I watched way too many You Tube videos on how to create a granny square. My husband got sick of hearing ‘yarn over’ 😅
What was the first thing you ever made?
-
Granny square blanket made up 120 squares! Yes I hand sewed every single square together! I did manage to finish it before I gave birth to my daughter.
What’s your all-time favourite stitch (and why)?
-
Half double crochet because it’s super quick to hook without too much effort.
🧠 The Pattern Mindset
Where do you get your design inspiration from?
-
It often starts from seeing a beautiful yarn people have used or shared. It inspires me to design something that shows off the colour or texture of the yarn.
What’s your favourite part of the design process – swatching, stitching, or writing it all down (or something entirely different)?
- Favourite part is the design phase when I am testing the yarn with an idea I have in mind. I love it when an idea works and a new pattern is born 😃
🧵 Crochet Real Talk
What’s one project that totally tested your patience?
-
Anything that requires a hook size smaller than 4mm such as amigurumi is a no go for me!
Do you crochet more for fun or for business these days?
-
More for fun unless I get a genius idea to collaborate with awesome yarn business like Yarn Over Yarn Under.
Are you team “one WIP at a time” or “controlled chaos with five projects on the go”?
-
Definitely ‘controlled chaos with five projects on the go’. I like to have a few on the go to switch between in case I get bored if it’s a long project.
What yarn colour or combo do you keep coming back to again and again?
- I do love colourful yarn that’s either variegated, ombréd, speckled or hand dyed.
💡 Fun & Personal
If you could crochet anywhere in the world for a week, where would it be?
-
On a porch of a lakehouse anywhere in Canada.
Tea or coffee while you crochet? Or just snacks? 😄.
-
I am a tea kinda girl. Chips are go to snack whilst crocheting.
What's one fun fact about you that has nothing to do with yarn?
-
I love to rollerblade.
🧶 A Little Plug!
What do you hope people feel when they make one of your designs?
-
My patterns are all something you can make to gift. So I want people to feel proud that they have made a beautiful handmade gift for someone to treasure.
Where can people find more of your work or follow along with your crochet adventures?
- Instagram, Facebook and Etsy. I also run a crochet group on Facebook with a few friends called ‘Crochet Oz & Friends’.
